Each year, Reconciliation WA produces the memoirs of a long-standing champion in the reconciliation movement. In 2025, Victoria Laurie sat down with Patrick Dodson to present his Reconciliation Memoirs. Patrick Dodson, a Yawuru Elder from Broome, an Australian Indigenous rights activist and former Western Australian senator.

Patrick has long been honoured as the 'Father of Australian reconciliation' and has held numerous prominent positions, including the founding chairman of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation which was later replaced by Reconciliation Australia. Patrick was also one of the commissioners looking into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

Patrick has devoted his life to strengthening the ties between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and after a lifetime of service, has demonstrated that reconciliation is a practical reality and something we should all be working towards.
