Splendid Wrens on Old Moss Log Print

This art print is a reproduction of an original watercolour painting by Chris Spiker.

Splendid Fairy-wren (Malurus splendens)
Also known simply as the splendid wren or more colloquially in Western Australia as the blue rren.
No other bird creates so much delight and fun than the brilliantly coloured splendid fairy-wrens. Their confiding nature makes them so approachable whether at a picnic table or in the bush, they seem to know that we love them. These little jewels build a small dome-shaped nest in which the female lays three or four reddish brown "dotted, spotted or splotched" pink or white eggs. Their diet consists mainly of beetles, ants and other insects mostly found on the ground.
