Banksia menziesii, Common name: Menzies' Banksia or Firewood banksia.

Banksia menziesii is a central feature on the Kings Park emblem. As one of Jane Li's favourite flowers, she has produced many artworks that feature banksias. This painting depicts the flower starting to bloom.

Firewood banksia was so named because it gives a slow burn. This was a very common tree used by settlers for firewood and was written into regulations in the early days of Swan River Colony as only a few trees were allowed to be used as firewood in Government buildings because its abundance.
