Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, in England, Emma Parker is a ceramicist based in Melbourne, Australia. She has a Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wales Institute, in Cardiff.
Emma Parker has been working in clay for over 25 years. She works in the education sector as a visual arts teacher, and spent over 15 years at Eton College, in England, where she lived on campus and taught fine art with a specific focus on ceramics, before immigrating to Melbourne to teach at Scotch College in October 2018.
Emma's sculptural work is predominantly figurative and informed by first hand experiences of the day-to-day as well as archival imagery. The source for her ceramics is both incongruous and varied.
Functionality has been a completely new avenue for Emma. She uses archival images, drawings and patterns directly as surface design. She uses painting and monoprint to decorate slabs that are either formed into tea bowls or press moulded into plates and patters.
Emma has exhibited internationally within the UK and Europe as well as Australia.
Made in Australia.
