Native - Art and Design with Australian Plants.

Kate Herd takes an adventurous approach to planting her urban and country gardens. She experiments with pruning and training a variety of native plants, combining them with exotics in dry-garden plantings, and using architectural and subtropical species to create lush but tough gardens.

Jela Ivankovic-Waters' formative experience of Western Australia's bushland, desert and coastal landscapes left her mesmerised by how native species performed in their habitats. She realised how widely they could be used in all sorts of places and ways - especially the admirable banksia: so many forms, funky foliages, mighty flowers and resilience.

'Native' offers planting palettes and design themes, gardening techniques and inspiration for an original and exciting perspective on the very best form, flowers and foliage of Australian plants.

About the Authors:
Kate Herd is an artist, author and designer working across disciplines and media. She has written for a range of publications including 'The Age' and 'The Planthunter' and is the author of 'Kitchen Gardens of Australia'.

Jela Ivankovic-Waters trained as a horticulturalist and landscape architect. Jela teaches design theory and planting design, and her PhD researches the role digital technology has in changing landscape architecture practices.
