'Red-winged Fairy-wren' (Malurus elegans)
As friendly as they come, the Red-winged Fairy-wrens love gardens, bush tracks and low thickets along the edges of bush paddocks. These light weight little birds build a small dome-shaped nest in which the female lays three or four reddish-brown" dotted, spotted and splotched" pink or white eggs. Their diet consists mainly of beetles, ants and other insects mostly found on the ground. Unfortunately, like many small birds they typically live only a few years, but during that time bring a lot of delight to those who observe them.
