At an early age, Marcus's interest in nature was inspired by fishing and fossicking on the reefs around Cottesloe and the jetties and banks of the Swan River, finding that these waterways never ceased to amaze with the variety of marine life and land creatures that were revealed to him.
As a farmer at Tonebridge in the State's South West, Marcus developed a strong attraction to the area's abundance of orchids, birds, marsupials, reptiles and insects.
This interest drew him into designing and creating jewellery. Each of Marcus's pieces are individually produced, crafted from fine silver, gold and freshwater pearls, with great care being taken to preserve the realistic appearance of his subject.
Marcus has recently designed a range of pendants and brooches inspired by Western Australian orchids, exclusively for Aspects of Kings Park. He was particularly taken with the ‘Babe-in-a-Cradle' and ‘Donkey' orchids, which are native only to the southwest coastal areas of Western Australia.
"The more intricate the petals of a rose or orchid are, or elaborate the fish fins, the greater the passion I have for discovering a way to create a comparable form with nature." Marcus I. Synnot
A range of Marcus's work can be purchased in store at Aspects of Kings Park.
